4 Pictures You Should Be Taking After An Auto Accident

Posted on

If you have been involved in an auto accident, there are plenty of pictures that you should be taking to ensure that you are well prepared to file a claim. This is especially important if the accident was not your fault since the pictures can help prove your case should it be taken to court. Here are four pictures that need to be taken after you are involved in an accident:

  1. The Damage to Your Vehicle: The first thing you will want to do is take photos of the damage that was done to your vehicle. This way, it cannot be disputed that the damage did not occur on that day. If your case is taken to court, there is a chance that the opposite party will claim that the damages you are claiming did not come on that date. When you take pictures, this cannot be done in your case.
  2. Damage to the Other Vehicle: If there was damage to the other vehicle, you will want to take photos of this as well. The damage to the other vehicle can be examined to help determine who was the true cause of the accident. If the opposite driver is not claiming responsibility for the accident, then your lawyer can have a professional inspect these photos to disprove that.
  3. The License Plates: Most likely, you do not have your license plate number memorized. The best way to ensure that you have it handy when you need it is to take a photo. You also need a photo of the other vehicle's license plate number, which you will need to file a police report, as well as a claim with your auto insurance. Do not ask to take a photo of the other person's driver's license since this can be used for identity theft, and if the other driver is smart, they will not allow you to do this. Simply write down their driver's license number instead.
  4. Injuries: If you or any of your passengers sustained injuries from the accident, always take photos of them. This way, it cannot be proven that your injuries are being over-dramatized. Take photos of the injuries at the scene if you can, as well as during the process of treatment to ensure that you receive full medical compensation.

When you take photos of these four things after being involved in an auto accident, you can be sure that you are going to have a smoother and easier time filing a claim. For more information, contact local professionals like J D'Agostino & Associates, P.C.
